How We Solved Our Wood Shop Storage Mess (For Good)

If you've ever tried to keep long pieces of lumber organized in a small shop, you know the struggle. Boards leaning everywhere, nothing easy to grab, and a wood pile that somehow takes up more floor space every week. That was us until we finally fixed it.

The Fix: Wall-Mounted Aluminum Shelving Racks

We installed aluminum shelving racks along the wall of the Green Roof Ranch wood shop to hold long pieces of lumber up off the floor. The process is straightforward but it matters to do it right: find your studs first, make sure the mounting screws actually bite into framing (not just drywall), set the brackets level and plumb, and work your way down the wall one bracket at a time.

Once they were up, we loaded the racks full of wood, and the difference was immediate. Everything is visible, everything is accessible, and the floor is finally clear.

Custom-Built, Not Off the Shelf

These brackets weren't something we grabbed at a hardware store. They were custom aluminum fabricated shelf brackets made by A&J Custom Metals, our other family business where we do custom metal fabrication for customers and for ourselves. It's a good reminder that a lot of the gear we build and use around the ranch comes full circle between our two operations.
