Not every year at the ranch ends in grocery bags full of anything. This week, the whole haul from the garden fit on top of the stove with room to spare, a small pile of green peppers, a handful of skinny purple chilies, a few sunset-colored ones somewhere between yellow and orange, and exactly four tomatoes, two of which were barely bigger than a marble.

People ask us fairly often what breed our goats are, and the honest answer is: yes. All of them.
